This training is about Palliative Care. It contains information about end of life care, including death and dying which some people may find upsetting.

The training was developed by MPFT Palliative and End of Life Care Team (Palliative + EOLC).

This training is for informational purposes only. Its content is appropriate to count towards professional CPD, however it is designed to compliment more in-depth training, such as face-to-face training offered by the palliative care team, and should not be used as stand-alone training course.

As this training is for informational purposes only, learners should be advised they should always seek professional and/or managerial support when dealing with high-risk situations.

Course Objectives:

  1. Define what is meant by end of life care.
  2. Recognise the importance of sensitive communication at end of life and the challenges faced.
  3. Understand the expected changes in nutritional and hydration needs at end of life.
  4. Identify common symptoms at end of life.
  5. Recognise if the swan model is in place and what this means.
  6. Develop an awareness of care after death.
