
Description
A compassionate overview of end of life care, focusing on sensitive communication, recognising common symptoms, and understanding changes in nutrition and hydration needs. The course introduces the SWAN model for dignified care and outlines best practices for care after death. The session aligns with MPFT policy and promotes respectful, individualised support for people and their families during the final stages of life.

This training is suitable for all care support worker staff.
This training is equivalent to 30 minutes participatory hours for CPD. A certificate will be provided upon completion of this training.
This training does discuss death and dying, and may be upsetting for some audiences.
This training was developed by the MPFT Palliative and End of Life Care Team (Palliative + EOLC).
Objectives
- Define what is meant by end of life care.
- Recognise the importance of sensitive communication at end of life and the challenges faced.
- Understand the expected changes in nutritional and hydration needs at end of life.
- Identify common symptoms at end of life.
- Recognise if the swan model is in place and what this means.
- Develop an awareness of care after death.
