The morning will be focussing on the theoretical content about dementia. The afternoon will be a Dementia Interpreter session. The Dementia Interpreter session is an interactive, experiential session focussing on the communication barriers that dementia can cause. Delegates will get to experience some of these barriers for themselves during the session through the use of specially designed equipment which will impair their ability to communicate. All delegates who complete the course will also have the opportunity to become registered Dementia Interpreters should they wish to do so. This will give them full access to the Dementia Dictionary project, the world’s first completely free to use service helping people to understand what people living with dementia may be communicating through their behaviours, actions, and vocalisations.
