This is a 2-day Train the Trainer course for Tier 2 Oliver McGowan training. It is provided by the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board.   The available dates for training are: 1 to 2 July 2025 5 to 6 August 2025 11 to 12 September 2025 1 to 2 October 2025 3 to 4 November 2025 2 to 3 December 2025 ​ If you wish to book onto this training, please contact ommt@staffsstoke.icb.nhs.uk.   Please bear in mind, that to run Tier 2 training for your staff, you will also need experts by experience. This e-learning course is designed to support you to develop skills in the delivery of holistic care for individuals who are palliative or approaching end of life. This course explores the distinctions between palliative care and end-of-life care, examining various illness trajectories and decision-making processes such as DNACPR and ReSPECT. It covers the delivery of holistic care, effective communication strategies, and key considerations for end-of-life care. Additionally, the course addresses post-death care, symptom management, and the evolving needs of individuals as they approach the end of life. Preparing to work in care - English as a Second Language (ESOL) This ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course is designed for learners who want to work in the care sector. The course will help you develop the knowledge needed to work in care alongside the essential English language skills to be able to communicate effectively with service users and colleagues. This course is accessible to all residents of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. It is available at: Newcastle and Stafford College Group     These courses are offered and completed through local colleges within Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. They are held externally to the Social Care Academy.   At the point of creating this course, all courses were free, however learners should contact the college to confirm they are eligible to complete the course for free. Some courses may result in a charge if they are not finished in time. Session Details This training is being held at: The Stone House Hotel,  Brooms Park Stafford Road, Stone, ST15 0BQ  Course Aim and Description This engaging and practical course is designed for frontline care staff responsible for administering "as required" (PRN) medication. It explores the importance of PRN protocols within a person-centred care framework, helping staff recognise when PRN medication is appropriate, how to administer it safely, and how to document and review its use effectively. Key Learning Areas: Understanding the purpose and application of PRN protocols Recognising symptoms and identifying appropriate PRN interventions Accurate administration, dosage, and documentation (including MAR charts and care plans) Monitoring side-effects and responding to adverse reactions Communicating with the multidisciplinary team and adhering to medication policy Managing complex PRN cases and ethical considerations (e.g., STOMP) Best practice guidance, including use of checklists and tools like the Abbey Pain Scale Learners will leave with a clear understanding of their responsibilities and practical tools to ensure safe, effective, and person-centred PRN medication management.
